First elected representing the Agricultural Region in 2021, Steve Martin is a Liberal Member of the Legislative Council and Western Australia's Shadow Minister for Transport; Ports and Communities.
Steve has previously served in a range of other shadow portfolios including Housing; Forestry, Planning; and as Shadow Treasurer.
Steve was raised on his family’s farm East of Wickepin, in Western Australia’s Great Southern region.
After working as a journalist for nearly a decade, Steve and his wife Debbie returned home to East Wickepin to work on the farm, where they have raised two sons. For nearly 30 years, Steve and Debbie have been partners in the family farming business alongside his parents, brother, and sister-in-law.
From 2001 to 2021 Steve was a Councillor at the Shire of Wickepin and was Wickepin Shire President from 2005 to 2015. He has also served as the Deputy President of the Western Australian Local Government Association.
Steve works hard to represent the people of regional WA in Parliament. He is a strong advocate on regional issues and understands the challenges facing people living and working in country WA.
Steve is fighting every day for the rights of regional Western Australians to maintain their livelihoods.
The continual assault from Perth and Canberra Labor on industries that they just don't understand is having an impact.
Whether it is the live sheep trade, forestry, fishing, infrastructure funding or anything else - regional Western Australians deserve our support, not endless policy changes that make things harder.
